History of the Academy: The Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia was founded in 1812 “for the encouragement and cultivation of the sciences, and the advancement of useful learning.” The unique aspect of this statement of purpose lies in the word “useful,” a mandate the Academy has continuously redefined through research and education that reflects the needs of the times.
The Academy of Natural Sciences offers Volunteer Internships in various areas of museum operations and education, including:
- Communications Intern
- Development/Membership Intern
- Education Intern
- Group Sales Assistant
- Institutional Advancement Intern
- Live Animal Center Intern
- Marketing Intern
- Visitor Services Intern
- Volunteer Program Intern
Bryn Mawr College students have been placed here in previous years.
For most internships a commitment of 16 to 20 hours per week is expected. Generally time would be scheduled on weekdays between the hours of 9 and 5, but some weekend scheduling is also possible.
